Canon Launches 2 Flagship Full-Frame Mirrorless Cameras in the EOS R System,
EOS R1 and EOS R5 Mark II, with the Slogan “You’ R The Next Gen,”
Redefining Speed and High Performance for Photography and Videography
Canon announced the launch of 2 new full-frame mirrorless cameras in the EOS R system. The flagship EOS R1 is designed to meet the demands of professional photographers, featuring its powerful new image processing and autofocus systems, setting new standards for high-speed photography and exceptional image quality. Launching alongside EOS R1 is the hybrid EOS R5 Mark II, boasting a newly developed 45-megapixel back-illuminated (BSI) stacked CMOS sensor and the Accelerated Capture image processing system. With support for 8K 60P video recording, the EOS R5 Mark II takes the EOS R series to a new generation, creating exciting possibilities for high-quality content production.
EOS R1: Be One with Mastery
The EOS R1 harnesses the power of a 24-megapixel back-illuminated (BSI) stacked CMOS sensor to elevate images to an impressive 96-megapixels with its unique In-Camera Upscaling technology. The sensor’s improved light efficiency and faster readout lay the foundation for the revolutionary capabilities of the EOS R1. The EOS R1 can shoot high-speed bursts at up to 40 fps full-resolution and features a newly developed AF-On button. It is the first Canon mirrorless camera with Cross-type AF and the new generation Dual Pixel Intelligent AF system, which improves the camera’s ability to detect small subjects or subjects affected by patterns and/or horizontal lines. Equipped with the DIGIC X image processor and DIGIC Accelerator, EOS R1 excels in autofocus, particularly in Action Priority AF mode, where the camera prioritizes up to 10 specific preregistered individuals and constantly focuses on them, even when the subjects’ faces are side facing.
The EOS R1 also includes 5-axis In-Body Image Stabilization (IS), featuring a new mechanism and algorithm that improves performance, especially when shooting with a compatible RF lens with in-lens stabilizer. Users can expect up to 8.5 stops’ equivalent image stabilization so handheld shot images where tripods are not available will remain sharp. Additionally, the EOS R1 supports RAW video recording at resolutions up to 6K 60P and Full HD 240P.
EOS R5 Mark II: Imagine Bigger Things
Ignite your creativity with the EOS R5 Mark II, offering 8K 60P RAW video recording. Equipped with the Dual Pixel Intelligent AF system, this camera enhances subject detection and tracking efficiency in both video and still photography, even in challenging scenes. It supports continuous shooting at up to 30 frames per second. It also boasts powerful features, including a newly developed 45-megapixel back-illuminated (BSI) stacked CMOS sensor. The upgraded Accelerated Capture System, combining the DIGIC Accelerator and DIGIC X processors, ensures rapid performance like never before.
The EOS R5 Mark II provides exceptional flexibility for video content creation, supporting 8K DCI 60p RAW video recording with Cinema EOS system features for professional production. In addition, the camera showcases beautiful slow-motion scenes in 4K quality (up to 5x slower) or in Full HD (up to 10x slower) with the 4K 120p or Full HD 240p, accommodating various file formats for versatile workflows. Additional video recording features include reduced rolling shutter distortion, Apple ProRes RAW external recording up to 8K 30P, Linear PCM 24-bit 4-channel audio input, a heat-dissipating structure, an optional cooling fan for extended high-resolution recording, and support for the latest wireless and wired communication protocols (Wi-Fi 6/6E and 2.5G Base-T wired LAN) and many more.
